MRS. JULIET MCCULLY
Juliet McCully is the founder-director of the Juliet McCully Speech Training Centre in Singapore and Malaysia, and a childcare centre called The Children’s Place.
In early 1968, Juliet McCully was awarded a Colombo Plan Scholarship to the Kingdon-Ward School of Speech Therapy in the United Kingdom. Upon graduating, she returned to Singapore to start and head the Speech Therapy Department at the Singapore General Hospital. During her ten-year tenure, she also assisted in setting up the Speech Therapy Department at the National University Hospital.
In 1978, Juliet McCully went into private practice and started the Speech Clinic. As a speech specialist, her appreciation for the importance of effective communication led her to set up the Juliet McCully Speech Training Centre in 1986. The Centre provided classes for adults as well as children. In 1999, the centre was registered with the Ministry of Education and the name was changed to Juliet McCully School of Language and Communications to reflect the broader spectrum of courses it offered.
With her qualifications and experience in working with children, Juliet McCully started The Children’s Place, a childcare centre in 1993. Its programmes were developed to reflect her basic belief that “In Every Child There Is Something Precious That Is In No Other”. Its programme catered to the individual interests and development of each child. The Children’s Place is the realisation of Juliet McCully’s vision for the premier pre-school in Singapore.
Juliet McCully was a much sought after speaker at management seminars and a frequent judge of public speaking contests. She also conducted workshops in Speech Training and Effective Presentation for many private and public organisations in Singapore.
Besides being a Licentiate of the College of Speech Therapists, she is also a Licentiate of the Trinity College of Music in Effective Speaking, and a Licentiate of the London College of Music in Speech & Drama. In addition, she has received her Masters in Child Development and Early Childhood Education (US).
As a true professional and visionary, Juliet McCully recognises that many countries in the region with strong developing economies have a need for training in effective communication. With this in mind, the Kuala Lumpur office was started in late 1993.
Juliet McCully has also written several storybooks and English assessment books for children.
